MicroTESE - Treatment for male infertility
What is micro-TESE?
Micro-TESE comes from “Microsurgical Sperm Retrieval from the Testicle“. It is an advanced technique that allows us to recover sperm from the testicles in patients with azoospermia, meaning the absence of sperm in the semen, which can lead to male infertility.
How is micro-TESE performed?
It is a procedure performed under general anesthesia through a small incision in the scrotum, allowing visualization of both testicles. Using a magnification microscope, the testicular tissue is examined, and selective samples are taken from areas that appear healthy. These samples are given to the embryologist, who is present in the operating room, and informs us whether or not there are sperm in them.
At Andrología Barcelona, we are experts in this technique, and it is performed by top-level professionals, as it requires great precision.
¿Who is Micro-TESE recommended for?
Micro-TESE is recommended for patients who have abnormal sperm production (non-obstructive azoospermia). There are many causes for this, including previous testicular surgery, prior medical treatment, genetic issues, or other male infertility factors.
What are the results of this procedure?
The likelihood of finding sperm with this technique is approximately 50% in most cases. Numerous studies have shown that micro-TESE results in the highest sperm recovery rate and causes the least amount of damage to the testicles compared to other techniques.
